The First Laser Hair Removal Session: What Actually Happens
Clients fear the unknown more than the laser. Walking them through the first-session structure before they book raises show-up rates and cuts anxiety-driven no-shows. Here is the honest run of show.
Consultation (10-15 minutes)
- Skin typing under standardized light, medical history screening (medications that cause photosensitivity, recent waxing, hormonal treatment)
- Area inspection: tattoos, moles and pigmented lesions get mapped and excluded
- Expectation setting: 6-10 sessions typical, intervals 4-8 weeks by area
Test Spots and First Pass
- Test spot on the treatment area, 48-hour observation for type IV and above
- Full pass at the lowest effective fluence — the session should feel like warm rubber-band snaps with cold air, not burning
- Session time: underarms 10-15 minutes, full legs 30-45 minutes
What Clients Must Hear Before Leaving
Hair sheds over 1-3 weeks — do not pluck between sessions, shave only. No active tanning between sessions or fluence drops and sessions waste. Next booking happens before they leave the chair. Platforms like the 1200W diode with contact cooling make the first-session experience significantly more comfortable — comfort is what gets the second booking.
