HIFU Aftercare: The 48-Hour Rules and the Two-Week Reality
HIFU needs almost no downtime — but the small amount of aftercare it does need gets skipped precisely because clients feel fine. The rules below protect results and prevent the three most common post-HIFU complaints.
The First 48 Hours
- No heat on the face: saunas, hot yoga, hot showers aimed at the face — tissue is already thermally activated
- No facial massage or aggressive skincare: the coagulation points are doing their work under the surface; kneading does not \”help the lift\”
- Gentle hydration and SPF only: actives can wait three days
- No alcohol excess the first night — facial flushing adds nothing good
The Normal Timeline (Tell Clients in Advance)
- Day 0-3: mild tenderness deep in treated zones, occasional tingling — normal, it is the tissue response
- Week 1-2: subtle tightness, the \”lifted feeling\” — visible change has not arrived yet
- Week 4-12: the actual result window as collagen rebuilds — clients judging at day 7 will misjudge the treatment
The Three Complaints and Their Causes
Lingering numbness patches (over-treatment or nerve-proximal passes — monitor, most resolve); prolonged redness beyond 72 hours (settings or barrier issue — assess); bruising at bony areas (technique, resolves in a week). Anything neurological — drooping, asymmetric movement — gets same-week physician assessment. Protocols per zone: neck and jawline; the annual repeat rule lives in the maintenance calendar.
