Standardized Treatment Photography: The Protocol That Decides Disputes
Every before/after dispute, every marketing claim, every course-renewal decision rides on photographs — and most clinics shoot them inconsistently enough to make their own evidence useless. A fixed photography protocol takes ten minutes to install and pays forever.
The Non-Negotiables
| Variable | Standard | Why it breaks results when ignored |
|---|---|---|
| Lighting | Fixed position, fixed color temperature, no windows | Side light invents texture; warm light invents tone |
| Angles | 5 fixed views per zone (front, two 45°, two profile) | Change hides off-axis; scars hide in profile |
| Distance | Marked floor position for the camera | Zoom changes pore size and lesion scale |
| Background | Plain, uniform | Patters fool the eye and the client |
| State | No makeup, same cleansing state, same time of day when possible | Foundation defeats the entire archive |
The Workflow
- Shoot at baseline and before EVERY session — \”I\’ll shoot at the end\” means no comparison exists
- Import same-day into the client file with the session number; naming convention beats memory
- Review images with the client on screen at every visit — this is where retention actually happens
The Legal Layer
Signed photo consent covers use in disputes and marketing — separate signatures, separate scope. Photographs are the clinic\’s strongest evidence in complaints and the strongest sales asset in consultations; both need the same consistency. Pair with the intake discipline of the screening guide and the arc numbers from guides like scar grading.
