Facial Redness Management: The Device Ladder From Flush to Vessels

Persistent facial redness sits on a spectrum from temporary flushing to fixed vessels — and the device plan must climb the same ladder in order. Starting at the wrong rung wastes sessions or flares the skin.

The Ladder

  1. Reactive flushing (comes and goes): trigger coaching first — heat, alcohol, spice; device work is supportive LED only
  2. Diffuse persistent redness: narrowband IPL/DPL passes, low fluence, 3-4 week intervals — target the hemoglobin background
  3. Visible fine vessels: DPL with tighter bands, single-vessel passes; expect darkening then clearance
  4. Coarse blue vessels: beyond IPL — long-pulse 1064 nm territory or medical referral

The Skin-Barrier Parallel Track

Redness and barrier damage feed each other. Every redness program runs barrier repair in parallel: gentle cleansing, ceramide support, zero stripping actives — otherwise vessels get cleared and re-flare in weeks. Flag persistent redness with systemic symptoms for medical evaluation — some redness is dermatology, not aesthetics.

Devices and Sequencing

Narrowband DPL platforms cover rungs 2-3; LED maintenance rides along at every rung. Expectation-setting per the checkpoint discipline — redness clients photograph badly between sessions and need the images explained.
