RF Microneedling Aftercare: The First 72 Hours and the First Week
RF microneedling\’s mild recovery profile is exactly why aftercare lapses surprise clinics — clients assume \”no downtime\” means \”no care\”. The first 72 hours determine comfort; the first week determines whether the collagen response pays out.
First 72 Hours
- Day 0: redness and grid marks, mild swelling — cool compress, barrier repair cream only, no cleansing beyond water rinse
- Day 1: grid fades on most skin; makeup still off, SPF if going outdoors
- Day 2-3: dryness and tightness peak — moisturizer frequency up, actives still out
Days 4-7
- Reintroduce gentle cleanser and mineral SPF as standard
- Vitamin C may return around day 5-7 on calm skin — one product at a time
- Retinoids and acids wait until week 2
The Two Complaints That Trace to Aftercare
Dry-flake patches (barrier under-moisturized in week 1) and micro-breakouts (makeup too early over micro-channels). Both are preventable with a written sheet and a day-2 check-in message. Full parameter context lives in the RF vs traditional guide; for pigment-risk clients the PIH prevention protocol rides along with the aftercare sheet.
