HIFU for Jawline and Submental: Protocol and Anatomy Limits
Lower-face HIFU delivers the most visible lift per session — and carries the most anatomy-specific risk. The jawline and submental zone reward precise cartridge selection and punish the \”more lines is better\” approach.
Cartridge Map for the Lower Face
- 4.5 mm: SMAS-level lines along the jawline and upper neck — the structural lift
- 3.0 mm: subcutaneous layer over jowls and submental fat — volumetric tightening
- 1.5 mm: dermal finish pass over the mandible line, optional
Anatomy No-Go Zones
- Mandible border and ear area: avoid the marginal mandibular nerve pathway — deep lines here risk transient asymmetry
- Submental midline below the hyoid: thyroid territory, 3.0/4.5 mm lines contraindicated
- Large submental fat pads: HIFU tightens, it does not remove fat — set expectations or refer for assessment
Session Numbers That Make Sense
Full lower-face protocol: one session, 400-600 lines total, results at 6-12 weeks. Client selection matters more than line count: good candidates have mild-to-moderate laxity with intact skin quality. The New Doublo 2.0 cartridge range covers all three depths; maintenance scheduling follows the 12-month calendar — jawline zones especially should not see HIFU more than once per year.
