When to Resume Skincare After Laser: The Actives Timeline
The most common post-laser complication is not from the laser — it is from clients restarting actives too early. A written resume-by-day timeline prevents both irritation incidents and the \”my skin got worse\” reviews that follow.
Resume Timeline by Product Category
| Product | Non-ablative / IPL | Fractional CO2 |
|---|---|---|
| Gentle cleanser, barrier moisturizer | Same day | Day 2-3 (after crusts stabilize) |
| Mineral SPF | Day 1-2 | Day 5-7, once crusting resolves |
| Vitamin C | Day 3-5 | Week 2-3 |
| Retinoids | Day 7 | Week 3-4 |
| Acids (AHA/BHA) | Day 7 | Week 3-4 |
Three Hard Rules
- Nothing active on broken or crusted skin — if it stings on application, it is too early
- One product re-introduction at a time, 3-4 days apart — assign blame unambiguously if irritation appears
- Any prolonged redness, itching or bumps: pause everything and return for assessment
Print It, Message It
Send the timeline as a follow-up message within an hour of treatment — clients follow what is written down. For the full aftercare arc including washing and crust care, pair with the day-by-day CO2 settings guide and equipment aftercare notes on the CO2 fractional product page.
